The Day You Begin

-Jacqueline Woodson

I often recommend The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson to families who want to support their children in building confidence, courage, and a sense of belonging. This book highlights what it can feel like to be different or unsure, while also encouraging children to share their stories and connect with others.

I use this book to help facilitate conversations about social anxiety, identity, and the bravery it takes to be seen and heard. It’s especially helpful for children in elementary school who may feel left out, new, or uncertain in social settings like school or peer groups.
